- What is Stanford Alumni Day of Service?
Stanford Alumni Day of Service brings Bay Area alumni together on one day to provide hands-on service to their communities. Projects are all be alumni-led and reflect the diversity of alumni interests and passions. Some projects are big. Some are small. Together, their impact will be great.
- Why are we doing this?
This program is inspired by the actions of Stanford alumni and their long tradition of service to others. Throughout the world, Stanford alumni are making a difference every day. While one day of service cannot meet every need in every community, bringing Bay Area alumni together to make a difference at one time can have a substantial impact on both the individuals involved in this shared experience and the greater community. It is our hope that Stanford Alumni Day of Service is the start of something even bigger.
- I'd love to organize a project. Am I too late?
We are no longer accepting new projects for this year's Stanford Alumni Day of Service. However, we hope you will organize a project when we run this program again in the Spring of 2011.
- Can non-Stanford alumni participate?
This event is intended to bring together Stanford alumni in service to their community. You will certainly be able to register non-alumni guests to join you.
- Can children participate?
Possibly. Each project will have its own parameters. In some cases, the activities will be appropriate for young volunteers. When the project listings go up in February, there will be a notation regarding age requirements.
- Can I organize a Stanford Alumni Day of Service project in my community if I live outside of the Bay Area?
We encourage Stanford alumni to serve their communities wherever they live. Although this year's Stanford Alumni Day of Service program is focused on the Bay Area, we hope to expand its scope in subsequent years.
- Can the alumni service project consist of raising funds for an organization?
No. The goal of the Day of Service is to provide hands-on service opportunities for alumni. This program does not consider direct fundraising to serve that purpose.
