STANFORD MAGAZINE
IS LOOKING for great dorm rooms from your class
year.
Today, $25.7 billion is spent annually on back-to-college
merchandise, and much of that is considered dorm-room
decor—the matching linens, office knickknacks
and up-to-the-second electronics that every student
"needs." But there was a time when coming
to campus didn't involve storage rentals and shopping
for a microwave/mini-fridge.
STANFORD magazine is considering
a story on Stanford dorm rooms through the ages. We
need alumni to tell us the stories of their dorm rooms.
Was your room the ultimate sign of the times? What things
turned a barely furnished room into your home? What
were the hot decorating trends? (Grandma's quilt, a
lava lamp or posters of your favorite rock group?) What
were the restrictions in your dorm? (No hot plates allowed?
No phone calls after 9 p.m.?) What changed during your
years at Stanford? (Were you the first on your floor
to loft your bed?) Tell us stories from the year when
the dorms went co-ed, when Branner went all-freshmen,
or about your unique housing experience on the Row.
E-mail short descriptions and anecdotes to Summer
Batte by Friday, May 20. Please let us know if you
have photos of your dorm room available.
We cannot respond to every submission, but will contact
you if we're able to use your story.
