Senior Dan Gill was named
Gymnast of the Year by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
on March 20, after winning the individual all-around
title with a score of 54.475. In early April, Gill placed
second in the all-around at the NCAA men’s

quarter training for the U.S. championships and the
Olympic trials, both in June. “My goal was to
get an NCAA scholarship in gymnastics, and I achieved
that,” Gill told STANFORD
this winter. “Then my goal was to make the national
team, and I did that. To compete internationally, and
I did that. The Olympics are my next goal.”
The women’s gymnastics squad
(15-3) won the Pac-10 championship on March 20 with
197.900 points, edging out No. 1 UCLA, which compiled

in the all-around, and seniors Lindsay Wing and Caroline
Fluhrer tied four other athletes for the balance beam
title. Kristen Smyth was named Coach of the Year. On
April 3, the No. 2 Cardinal captured first place at
the NCAA North Central regionals, with senior Lise Léveillé,
