Master of the Universe

HE'D ALREADY HAD A STELLAR CAREER. But when University of Washington astronomer Theodor Jacobsen retired in 1971, he kept working -- compiling a history of ancient astronomical theory. Now, colleagues have published the manuscript (UW Press, 1999) as a tribute to their mentor. Jacobsen, who lives in Seattle, says he's pleased the book will go to archives around the world: "It's always satisfying to have your work published." Especially at the age of 98.
