Ask any former staffer why they've enjoyed working at Sierra Camp so much and you'll get a multitude of answers. Camp is many things to many people, and sometimes it's hard to put into words why it's such a great a place to work and associate with people...so check out some visuals!

Fallen Leaf Lake lies on the edge of the Desolation Wilderness Area, just south of Lake Tahoe   Sierra Camp sits on the southern shore of Fallen Leaf Lake, offering spectacular sunrises.

  rowing

The boat dock can be one of the busiest places at camp. Guests and staff alike love using our fleet of funyaks, kayaks, rowboats, sailboats, and canoes.   Rowing at camp combines great early morning exercise with an incredible view. Staffers help guests in and out of the boats, with interesting conversation along the way.

A typical staff cabin. Most staff live with two or three roommates.   Part of camp’s rustic heritage, the Old Lodge and its deck host a myriad of weekly events, including arts and crafts, acoustic jam sessions, book discussions, and more.

babybeach   campfire

Camp's private beach, Baby Beach, is home to campfire, Games Day, BBQ lunches, and great swimming.   Every week guests and staff gather for an evening campfire filled with music and s’mores on camp’s Baby Beach.

dining   ted

You may be serving gourmet meals dressed in neon spandex, or like an astronaut, or in your roommate's leopard print flannel suit.   The Kitchen is a major hub of activity in Camp, as the Kitchen Staff cooks 1500 meals per day.

munch

Kids at Camp range in ages from 3-18. Counselors create programming that both entertains and challenges the kids in their group.   Fishing for crawdads off the end of the ski dock is one of Camp’s greatest pastimes.

  jscal

The home of Camp’s ski boats, wetsuits, wakeboards, skis, tubes, and more. The ski dock staff teaches both children and adults, experienced guests and total rookies.   Early morning is the best time to etch your initials in the glassy lake, whether you're just learning how to ski, or perfecting advanced kneeboarding tricks.

sev   olympic 5 man

Music is a huge part of life at Camp, whether it's playing for Music Hour during the Friday dinner BBQ, or writing a new song for Staff Talent Show that night.   The ski dock staff performs many exciting tricks during the weekly ski show, such as this olympic-ring themed 5-man pyramid.

gamesday   graham

Games Day Staff leads games on the beach. Can you guess their theme for the week?   Nothing escapes the eyes of the Photographers, who take around 4000 photos per week of everything that happens at Camp.

Silhouette of Cathedral Ridge   disco

The view from a staff cabin. Not a bad way to start each day.   Disco Bingo is just as it sounds: play Bingo while dancing to Disco tunes. One of these days, someone may actually win that Malibu Ski Boat.

teens   milo

The Suaves and Teens on an overnight hike, which creates a unique bonding opportunity for counselors, as well as introducing the kids to the fun of the outdoors.   On the surface, Hobarting is washing dishes. But for the staff, it's so much more...

nikki   hike

Most Staff members have a few lifeguarding shifts each week and help to keep swimmers and boaters safe. Usually, we prefer to take the caps off the binoculars when looking for trouble.   Desolation Wilderness is right outside of Camp and is an inspiring destination for day-off adventures and guest hikes of varying intensities.

streetswill   dining

Whether by a waterfall or on Boatster, Camp's pontoon boat, guests gather each day for a social. The staff serves appetizers and beverages.   You can always find Staff laughing, chatting, and playing games in the Dining Room after guest activities wind down for the night.

crafts   biking

Guests love learning new skills from the Arts and Crafts Instructors.   Nothing is impossible for a day-off adventure. Staffers do everything and anything, from biking around the lake, to relaxing on a Tahoe beach.

Kids programming includes everything from arts and crafts, to environmental education, to games galore. You're only limited by your imagination.   After Saturday cabin cleaning is completed, you may find yourself helping in the kitchen or scrubbing dining room tables to prepare for the next set of guests.

kazi   britt

Quantity and quality. The kitchen staff learns to prepare such things as soft-shelled crab, prime rib, seaweed tofu salad, and chocolate chip pancakes.   The Ropes Course can be used to foster teamwork and trust within your groups.

You'll finish each week with a few new friends, whether you meet them in your kids group, at the dinner table, or in the Fountain.   The Staff entertains kids while parents socialize or attend lectures by Stanford Faculty. If you're an individual instructor, you'll often have these opportunities to interact with kids.
